
Tamara Mc Lorg
Tamara McLorg was trained at The London School of Contemporary Dancefrom1969 to 1973. Her career has taken the road of choreographer, dancer, community dance worker and university lecturer. She has choreographed over 100 works for both Professional Companies and Community Groups. She was dance Artist in Residence for Stirling District Council (1986 – 1988) and from 1988 – 1994 was Artistic Director for Dundee Rep Dance Company (now Scottish Dance Theatre). Tamara has choreographed and taught extensively within the UK and her international work includes Peru, Ethiopia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, USA, Siberia, Greece, The former Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary, Vietnam and Brazil. She has given papers at international conferences, e.g. in USA (Florida), Portugal, and the UK. She has written articles for Animated, the community dance magazine in the UK. She is on the management committee for The Lisa Ullman Travelling Scholarship Fund. Currently she is a senior lecturer at Middlesex University in London, with her main subjects being Community Dance, Choreography and Cultural Identity.
Tamara and Royston Maldoom have collaborated in partnership on many choreographic projects since 1980. During 1988 and 1989 as co- directors they initiated The Scottish Youth Dance Festival, which was the first festival in the UK that fully integrated abled and disabled young dancers. Their collaborations have also extended from choreography to performing as dancers in each other’s pieces during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
